This policy is a draft and needs legal review before publication.
What the app is
Kids Visual Learning shows videos that human curators approved. A child cannot search YouTube. The child sees only the approved list.
What we do not do
- No accounts for children. The app asks for no name, age or email.
- No ads and no ad profiles.
- No analytics, no trackers and no crash reporting.
- No location, and no advertising or device identifiers.
What stays on the device
Watch history, likes and parent settings are stored only on the device. We do not receive them. Deleting the app deletes them.
What leaves the device
The app makes two kinds of network calls.
- Our catalog. The app downloads a signed list of approved videos from our servers. The request is a normal web request, so our hosting provider (Cloudflare) sees the IP address and the time as part of serving it. We do not link it to a person and do not use it to profile anyone.
- YouTube's embedded player. Videos play in the YouTube player. This is a service of Google LLC, which acts as a third party. Playing a video sends data to YouTube. We ask for the privacy-enhanced mode. Google's own policy applies: https://policies.google.com/privacy
We do not control what Google processes. Curators approve each channel and video by hand. We plan to also check YouTube's made-for-kids flag automatically.
Curators and parents
Curators are adults who vote on videos. We store their email, their votes and an audit log. This is not child data. Parents who write to us are covered by the contact section below.
Children and COPPA
The app is directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the app has no accounts and no analytics, we have nothing to collect and share. If you believe a child sent us personal information, write to us and we will delete it.
GDPR
For people in the EU and UK, the controller is named above. Where we process personal data, such as curator accounts and contact emails, the legal basis is a contract or our legitimate interest in running the service. You can ask for access, correction, deletion and portability. You can complain to your data protection authority. We keep curator audit records as long as they are needed to show how the catalog was built.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above. We will not add tracking to the child app without a new version of this policy and a clear notice to parents.
